XI. “In Your Eyes”
...Because I’ve tried so many times.
I’ve tried again and again to do everything in my power
To move away from the idea
The thought
The memory or rather vision of us
For your sake (and mine)
But every time I look in your eyes…
I’ve tried to make it impossible in my mind
To put us together
But the very hand of God molds us into one;
Beyond the ability to attract or sustain
Still discouraged by fear that remains
But then I look into your eyes.
See, there is something there,
Within the limits of your gaze, that captures me
And the more I struggle and fight not to see it (for your sake)
The more I come to realize how little it matters.
I’m simply drawn into the beauty of your eyes
Because there is something here
In the boundaries of your gaze that astounds me
Gravity much stronger than the default defense can bear
I hope to find myself submerged in your love
Insecurity cast into obscurity; the thought of such depth still lies uneasy
Though the liberty is comforting
You see, when I look into your eyes
No matter how hard I try (for your sake and mine)
I still see us
And the memories still to come.
